Copper

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This massive flower grows up to 12.8 feet (3.9 meters) tall. Its brown stem is thin, and the small, yellow leaves are brown on the underside and are long, tapering with smooth edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

A single small flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 87 cm (34.3 inches) wide, with alternating petals of copper and crimson, with a dark orange central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of handfuls of widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has an intense scent that smells like new books, and it has very little pollen. It is a self-pollinator.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
