It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in delicate, silky, gray bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is silver.
The tangled mess of branches are short and thin, with thousands of twigs covered with copious amounts of small, brown needles. The needles themselves are robust.
In late summer it produces small, white, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
