Aquamahogany

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 349 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in cracked, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is yellow.

The small handful of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of smooth, small, stiff, pointed leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in aquamarine, green and dark red varieties.

In late summer it forms small, light orange, winged seeds that float and land far away.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
