Bloodvine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large caudiciform grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is moss green, and is covered in lots of fine, blood red, hair-like spines. The slanted, yellow trunk can grow to as much as 9 feet (2.7 meters) in diameter at the bottom. Its gray-green branches are long and thin and start growing three quarters of the way up the stem.

The small amounts of serrated-edged, thin leaves are found in green, brown and light grey varieties. They are strong, and take some effort to detach.

It is very fast growing, taking 7 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid deep green petals and an azure central disk, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 30 petals. It has a soft scent that smells like vomit.

The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the hazel flesh is sticky, and the pink sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.

It is suitable for making paper
It can survive a very long time without water.
The leaves are high in natural sugars.
