Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wavy trunk covered in fine, wrinkled, dark gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is silver.

The small clumps of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of huge, spear shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are copper and amber.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, gentle purple blossoms with 9 heart-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In late summer it produces , donut-shaped fruit. The hairy silver skin is tough and bitter and salty, and the soft gentle orange flesh is sour and very dry. The dark brown seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
