Bloodvine

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized cactus grows up to 24 feet (7.3 meters) tall. It splits partway up the body to form 5 spear shaped stems. Each stem is lime green, and is covered in handfuls of rigid blood red spines.

It is steady-growing, taking 3 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are black on the underside and brown on the top, grow at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 10 petals in raised layers. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like petrol.

The cactus's skin is nearly impenetrable, the violet flesh is smooth, and the purple sap is thin.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
The sap is edible and extremely bitter.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is bio-luminescent.
