Copperbell

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.5 feet (46 cm) tall. Its moss green stem is very thick and straight with a curved tip, and the small, pink-red leaves are light copper on the underside and are asymmetrical with irregular edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

4 to 6 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of silver. The flower head is largely flat with 60 tightly layered round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like musk, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by a small species of bird.

It is slightly resistant to fire damage.
