Blackfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in smooth, black bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with thick bunches of small, pleated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either light grey or cyan, with violet edges.

In early spring, it produces several large, brown blossoms with 3 heart-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like lavender.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The waxy gold skin is thin and sweet and spicy, and the crunchy olive flesh is sweet and spicy and dry. The blood red seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
