Magenta Starflower

This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its brown stems grow in bunches of 8 and are very thin with a curved tip, and the tiny, red leaves are slender, pointed with serrated edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

4 to 6 small flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid magenta petals and a bronze central disk. The flower head is made up of 50 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight star. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like soap, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
