Bluebell

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)

This short flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its yellow stem is very thin, and the tiny, gray-green leaves are very narrow and elongated with toothed edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Two large flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with petals that are grey in the center, sky blue in the middle and slate at the edges. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of tightly layered round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like vanilla, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.
