Coilvine

This massive fruit tree grows up to 73 feet (22.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 73 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is pine-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches are very long and thin and are covered with large amounts of tiny, slender, pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are bronze and red.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, crimson blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like fish.

In late summer it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The soft silver skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft pink flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The crimson seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
