Crimson Maple

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in knobbly, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is white with black speckles.
The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of clammy, tiny, pleated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are silver on the edges and crimson at the center.
In late summer it forms medium-sized, gold seed pods.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
The sap is edible and slightly bitter.
The stems are covered in large spikes.
It can grow in even the most barren lands.
