Crimson Succulent

This small caudiciform grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall. The very thin stem is gray-green, and is covered in sharp spines. The wide, orange trunk can grow to as much as 3 feet (91.4 cm) in diameter. Its pink-red branches are tall, rigid and upright.

The rounded-edged, circular leaves are found in hazel, green and silver varieties. They are robust, but do not detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 44 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with alternating petals of green and magenta, with a red central disk grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of many petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cube. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like something putrid.

The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the pink flesh is waxy, and the crimson sap is thin.
