Copperflower

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its emerald stem is very thin and splits into numerous branching stems at the top, and the huge, copper leaves are needle-like with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Hundreds of medium-sized flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with petals that are green on the underside and amber on the top. The flower head is shaped like a dish made up of several widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has a weak scent that smells like pineapple, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
