Burgundy Starflower

This short flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its grey or magenta stem is very thick and splits into 7 branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the miniature, burgundy leaves are finger-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 3 to 5 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with petals that are green on the underside and amber on the top. The flower head is shaped like a star with 29 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intense scent that smells like sugar, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
