Bloodfruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very light wood is burgundy-brown.

The numerous branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of small, thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either gentle purple, or dark brown with hazel dots.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, beige blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like blood.

In early summer it produces tiny, 8 pointed fruit. The soft orange skin is stretchy and sweet and sour, and the crunchy dark brown flesh is sweet and powdery. The grey seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
