Aquamarine Starflower

This enormous flower grows up to 11.8 feet (3.6 meters) tall. Its aquamarine stems grow in bunches of 7 and are very thin with a curved tip, and the small, slate or grey leaves are circular with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

A single giant flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 80 cm (31.5 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of red. The flower head is shaped like a star with 19 widely spaced, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a weak scent that smells like old books, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to bees.
