Abyssal Olive

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 56 feet (17.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is white.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small amounts of tiny, spear shaped leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are light brown with turquoise tips.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of tiny, light brown blossoms with 2 teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In late autumn it produces tiny, triangular fruit. The smooth green skin is delicate and sweet, and the soft indigo flesh is bitter and spicy and oily. The hazel seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for making strong rope
