Caramelfern

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 181 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many wide, wonky stems covered in fine, cracked, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is pale brown.

The branches are very short and slender with thousands of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of giant, long, narrow, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of gray that gradient shifts to caramel at the top, robust and smooth.

In mid-summer it produces thick bunches of large, copper blossoms with 6 pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In midwinter very large cuboid fruits ripen. The rubbery bronze skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the crunchy peach flesh is sweet and dry. The green seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
