Caramel

This short leaf succulent grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. The narrow stem is pink-red, and is dotted with small bright yellow spines. The rounded-edged, wispy leaves are a shade of gray that gradient shifts to caramel at the top. Large amounts of them grow from the base in alternating layers of 2, then 4, then 6, and so on. The leaves are robust, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 36 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with hazel petals and a yellow center grows at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is shaped like a sphere made up of many raised, narrow petals. It has an intensely strong scent that smells like pot-purri.

The leaf succulent's skin is very thick, the lilac flesh is sticky, and the subtle green sap is thin.
