Copperleaf

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 198 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous narrow, straight stems covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of huge, wispy, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are hazel with gold tips, hardy and rough.

In mid-spring it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, azure flowers with long, narrow petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like rich perfume.
