Bluefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in fine, ridged, silver bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The sparse amount of branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with thick bunches of giant, broad, flat leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are generally dark brown.

In early spring, it produces several giant, sky blue blossoms with 7 circular shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like cinnamon.

In late summer it produces tiny, hexagonal-shaped fruit. The soft purple skin is thin and spicy and sour, and the slightly crunchy black flesh is slightly bitter and powdery. The brown seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
