Caramel

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a stocky, curved trunk covered in thick, knobbly, brown and grey bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is gray.

The thin clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with copious amounts of huge, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are green and orange.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of giant, beige blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like sweat.

In early winter it produces , triangular fruit. The hairy caramel skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy cream flesh is sour and savoury and very dry. The florescent green seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
