Graybloom

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 26 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous thick, crooked stems covered in very thick, waxy, gray bark, and the wood inside is pale brown.

The branches are long and slender that and are covered with thick bunches of large, circular, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are hazel and black, resistant and sticky.

In mid-summer it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, cream blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like coconut.

In late winter long, tapering fruits ripen. The sticky slate skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy crimson flesh is sweet and very dry. The brilliant orange seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.
