Copperfruit

This huge fruit tree grows up to 47 feet (14.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, twisting trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black with white speckles.

The abundance of branches are short and thin and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are copper with indigo tips.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, dull red blossoms with 3 pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like pineapple.

In late summer it produces small, oblong fruit. The hairy lilac skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy green flesh is sweet and spicy and dry. The light green seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
