Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)This small leaf succulent grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall. The wide stem is green or yellow, and is covered in thick bunches of flexible dark brown spines. The smooth-edged, thin leaves are green and amber. Small bunches of them grow from the base like rose petals. The leaves are resilient, but do not detach easily.
It is very fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are generally bronze; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grow at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a heart with 7 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like varnish.
The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the dark grey flesh is rubbery, and the silver sap is thin.
It blooms only at night.
