Clinging Mahogany

This big shrub grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 188 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has several slender, angular stems covered in very thick, waxy, brown bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches trail down to the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, long, narrow, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in indigo, magenta and orange varieties, rigid and crispy.

It produces handfuls of giant, lilac flowers with perforated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like rotten egg. In mid-summer it forms smalldeep yellow, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.
