Crimson Vine

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is wispy, and the huge, pink-red leaves are light gold on the underside and are sickle shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two small flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 18 cm (7.1 inches) wide, with purple petals on the lower layer and blood red petals decorated with lilac dots on the inner layer. The central disk is red. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight dish. They fall easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like pepper, and it has very little pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
