Ashy Blue

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 85 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in smooth, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black.

The branches are very long and slender and are covered with large amounts of small, stiff, pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are generally ashy blue.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, aquamarine blossoms with pleated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like ashes.

In early autumn it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth slate skin is tough and spicy, and the soft gold flesh is bitter and spicy and powdery. The silver seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
