Blackfruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 22 feet (6.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, twisting trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is dark brown.

The excessive amount of branches are very short and thick and are covered with small amounts of small, long, narrow leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are cyan and violet.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, light brown blossoms with circular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a faint scent that smells like coffee.

In mid-summer it produces small, triangular fruit. The waxy slate skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the crunchy gold flesh is savoury and very dry. The pale orange seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
