Magenta Willow

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 37 meters (121.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 402 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small amounts of clammy, miniature, thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid bronze or magenta, with turquoise lines.

In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, magenta blossoms with many layers of petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In late summer it forms giant, beige seed pods.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
