Bloodfruit Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 70 feet (21.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in thick, cracked, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow.

The abundance of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of miniature, wispy leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of green that gradient shifts to orange at the top.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, turquoise blossoms with fan-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like cherry.

In late autumn it produces small, 8 pointed fruit. The rubbery blood red skin is peel-able and sweet, and the crunchy washed-out red flesh is sour and syrupy. The lime seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
