Bronzeberry

This big fruit tree grows up to 38 feet (11.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in delicate, knobbly, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is white.

The sparse amount of branches are very long and thin and are covered with handfuls of huge, spear shaped leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are black at the bottom and amber with bronze streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with fan-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like pineapple.

In mid-summer it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The fuzzy caramel skin is stretchy and sweet and sour, and the soft washed-out red flesh is sweet and sour and dry. The green seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
