Turquoise

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (41 cm) tall. Its emerald stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are thin and straight, and split into several branching stems halfway up, and the miniature, green and hazel leaves are asymmetrical with rounded edges. The leaves alternate on the stem.

Each stem splits 6 to 10 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 33 cm (13.0 inches) wide, with turquoise petals that gradient shift to beige on the outer edge. The central disk is magenta. The flower head is largely flat with dozens of widely spaced round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like varnish, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind and is ignored by most insect species.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
