Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big fruit tree grows up to 31 feet (9.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 22 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in fine, ridged, black bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow-brown.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of huge, perforated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are azure and blood red.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, blue blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like cinnamon.

In early winter it produces tiny, wide fruit. The clammy subtle purple skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is salty, and the soft magenta flesh is bitter and dry. The gold seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It is bio-luminescent.
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
