Violet

This small caudiciform grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is yellow or subtle green, and is covered in sharp spines. The bulbous, green trunk can grow to as much as 6 feet (1.8 meters) in diameter. Its burgundy branches are short and thin.

The smooth-edged, very narrow and elongated leaves are pink and violet. They are frail, but take some effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 48 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with solid sky blue petals decorated with hazel dots and a purple central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 16 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like musk.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the turquoise flesh is rough, and the light brown sap is thin.
