Magenta Spearflower
Flower type: Biennial (Evergreen - keeps its leaves all year round)This average-sized flower grows up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) tall. Its green or magenta stem is very thick, and the giant, dark brown leaves are spear shaped with serrated edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
Each stem splits 4 to 6 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 39 cm (15.4 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of green. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 60 petals. They are hardy.
It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like sweat, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
