Azureberry

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 66 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, twisting trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pine-coloured.

The thin clumps of branches are very long and thin and are covered with small amounts of large, 5 pointed leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are generally olive.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, slate blossoms with finger-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like vanilla.

In early winter it produces very large, long, straight fruit. The crispy azure skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and salty and powdery. The hazel seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
