Bloodfruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, dark gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is gray.

The small bunches of branches are long and thin and are covered with large amounts of large, 7 pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are yellow and peach.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, green blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like blood.

In mid-summer it produces small, perforated fruit. The fuzzy violet skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft vibrant orange flesh is sweet and savoury and juicy. The blood red seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
