Blackwood

This large shrub grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for around 24 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous knobbly, angular stems covered in waxy, black bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of large, broad, flat, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either faded green, or yellow with aquamarine edges, resistant and smooth.

In mid-summer it produces several large, hazel flowers with 6 kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like a damp log.
