Purplefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in waxy, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is dark brown.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with very large amounts of giant, fan-like leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are bright purple at the bottom and azure with dark grey streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, lilac blossoms with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like rotten meat.

In mid-summer it produces small, circular fruit. The fuzzy yellow skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is bland, and the crunchy olive flesh is sweet and sour and sticky. The beige seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
