Violetfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 68 feet (20.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in rough, dark gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are short and slender and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, circular leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid violet or drab blue, with purple splotches.

In early spring, it produces dozens of large, lime blossoms with 6 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like onion.

In early autumn it produces , oval fruit. The waxy pastel purple skin is peel-able and sweet and spicy, and the very soft pastel purple flesh is very savoury and oily. The dark grey seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
