Greyfern

This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 168 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, twisting trunk covered in ridged, brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown-grey.

The thin clumps of branches are short, thin and wispy, covered with sparse amounts of giant, gray-green needles. The needles themselves are rigid.

In late summer it produces small, yellow, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
