Clinging Vinefruit

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wonky trunk covered in knobbly, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is yellow.

The tangled mess of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of tiny, 9 pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are pink and lilac.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, beige blossoms with oblong shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like skunk spray.

In late autumn it produces small, wide fruit. The fuzzy lime skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is salty and very juicy. The green seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
