It is big, growing up to 10 inches (25 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps, and is very delicate.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release millions of spores.

It only grows on the most fertile lands.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
