Spikefruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 54 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wonky trunk covered in very thick, waxy, silver and white bark, and inside, the hard wood is white.

The small bunches of branches are long and thick and are covered with thick bunches of large, fan-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are yellow-green with blue tips.

In early spring, it produces lots of tiny, hazel blossoms with 7 pointed petals. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like lavender.

In early autumn it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The soft light brown skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is bitter and salty, and the crunchy drab red flesh is spicy and dry. The lime seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
