Copperfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 58 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, curved trunk covered in wrinkled, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, long, narrow leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are lilac and olive.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, sky blue blossoms with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like cotton.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, finger-like fruit. The smooth copper skin is peel-able and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is spicy and very juicy. The gentle red seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
