Copperbell

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 176 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has several slender, wonky stems covered in hard, rough, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.

The branches are short and thin that and are covered with very large amounts of giant, needle-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either grey, or blood red with lilac edges, flimsy and smooth.

In early summer it produces hundreds of medium-sized, hazel flowers with spear shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like rotting meat.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
