Aquamarine Flameflower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (38 cm) tall. Its yellow stems grow in bunches of 8 and are very thick with a curved tip, and the huge, moss green leaves are flame-shaped with toothed edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Each stem splits 4 to 9 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid aquamarine petals decorated with bold green dots and a dark brown central disk. The flower head is shaped like a cup made up of several widely spaced, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a weak scent that smells like pot-purri, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
