Purplefruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 43 feet (13.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, slanted trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, dark green bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black with white speckles.

The sparse patches of branches are long and thin and are covered with large amounts of giant, long, tapering leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are solid drab purple with yellow zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces lots of small, blue blossoms with 8 oblong shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like fresh linen.

In late summer it produces large, 4 pointed fruit. The clammy turquoise skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the soft subtle green flesh is extremely spicy and oily. The ashy red seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
